BAM Construct UK are recruiting a HR Officer to join the Midlands region on a 12-month maternity contract.  This role provides a fantastic opportunity to gain further experience in a true generalist role, supporting the HR Manager with the day-to-day running of the HR department. 

Together the Midlands HR team support a number of BAM Construct UK Ltd group companies including BAM Construction, BAM FM and BAM PPP.  Based from our office in Shirley, Solihull, travel is required on a regular basis throughout the Midlands region and occasionally to our Head Office in Hemel Hempstead.

About the role

The role encompasses a broad spectrum of HR activity, typically including the following duties and responsibilities:

Recruitment & Induction

  • Work together with the internal recruitment team at all stages of the recruitment process
  • Liaise with the management team on their recruitment needs
  • Prepare job descriptions
  • Organise and attend interviews as and when required
  • Conduct inductions for new starters 

Absence Management

    • Coordinate the absence management process
    • Absence management reporting and administration
  • Arranging absence review meetings and attending where appropriate
  • Liaison with our external occupational health provider as required

Disciplinary, Grievance, Performance Management

  • Attendance at disciplinary / grievance meetings as lead HR representative when appropriate
  • Note taking during disciplinary / grievance meetings
  • Advising on staff development and performance management
  • matters as required

TUPE

  • Advise and support the business on TUPE process as an when the need arises
  • Overseeing and coordinating TUPE process including consultations 

Learning and Development (L&D)

Proactively support the region in achieving the annual training plan through:

    • Liaison with internal and external training providers
  • Coordinate and manage training course invitations to delegates
  • Administrating training needs and updating staff records using the HR system [CIPHR]
  • Evaluating training courses via survey monkey and producing reports
  • Updating relevant learning & development documents and systems in the region and wider business
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure training carried out is in line with the training plan and budgets
  • Support the annual Performance Development Review (PDR) process 
  • General Admin and HR advice
  • General administrative duties including invoice approvals
  • Manage day-to-day HR enquiries from a wide range of employees and managers
  • Provide HR advice and support managers with HR processes and procedures
  • Support pre-employment processes
  • Produce reports on HR and L&D information as required by Management
  • Work closely with the Central HR admin team to ensure compliance to HR admin procedure
  • Manage the monthly HR reports for the region and associated actions
    • Regular liaison with the wider HR community
    • Organising, scanning and electronic filing of paperwork, documents and computer-based information on the company Electronic Data Management System (EDMS)
  • Ensure information is kept in line with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

Who are we looking for?

  • HR generalist who is currently working within a HR Assistant / HR Officer role
  • CIPD qualified or working towards qualification
  • Ability to use own initiative and responds positively to new ideas
  • Accurate and always works with a high attention to detail
  • Polite manner, able to communicate with all levels of management
  • Demonstrates a high degree of personal integrity and discretion
  • Must hold a driving licence and be willing to travel to sites
